Q. How do I Load a Disk?
1. Insert a disk in the drive.
2. Press the [DISK] button.
3. Press the F2 button to go to the File Load menu.
4. Use the F1 -F8 buttons to select the type of load you would like to perform.
5. Use the Data Dial, [DEC]/[INC] buttons or numeric keypad to select the file you would like to load.
6. Press the [ENTER] button.
7. Press the [INC/YES] button to confirm and load the data.

Q. How do I select a Voice?
1. Press the [VOICE] button.
2. In Voice mode P1, P2, I1 and I2 are written in the lower part of the display. These are memory locations, by pressing the corresponding function key (buttons [F1] through [F4]) you can accesses the voices in that memory location.
3. Use the Data Dial, [DEC]/[INC] buttons, the numeric keypad or press one of the eight BANK buttons and one of the PROGRAM number keys to select a Voice.

Q. How do I select a Performance?
A. Press the [PERFORMANCE] button then follow the same procedure as selecting voices. There is only one memory location for Performances so you will not see P1, P2, I1, or I2 in the display.

Q. How do I Initialize all the Memory in my EX?
A. Caution! Make sure you save any changes you have made and want to keep before you do this procedure. To completely erase all data in the EX memory hold down the [EXIT] button while turning the power on.

Q. How do I restore the Factory Set data?
A. Load the Factory Set File (file name FACTSET1/2/3/4.S1Y) from the appropriate Demo Disk. Use the Load Synth All function to select the File name, follow the steps on how to load a disk or see page 25-27 in the owners manual for more info.

Q. How do I Store a Voice?
1. While in Voice mode press the [STORE] button.
2. Use the Data Dial, [DEC]/[INC] buttons, or the numeric keypad to select a destination to store the voice.
3. Press the [ENTER] button.
4. Press the [INC/YES] button to confirm and load the data.
5. When the data has been stored press the [EXIT] button.

Q. How do I Store a Performance?
A. While in Performance mode follow the same procedure as storing voices.

Q. What is a Scene?
A. A Scene is used to memorize and recall different controller setting instantaneously by pressing one of the two Scene buttons. You can also morph smoothly between Scenes for expressive effects.

Q. How do I Morph between two Scenes.
1. Press and hold down one SCENE button.
2. Now press the other SCENE button. Both Scene indicator lights will be lit.
3. Use the MODULATION 2 wheel to gradually change from SCENE 1 (wheel at the lowest position) to
SCENE 2 (wheel at the highest position).
4. Press either SCENE button to disengage Scene Morph.

Q. How do I Store a Scene?
1. Modify a sound using the Controller Knobs.
2. Press either the SCENE [1] or [2] buttons while holding the [STORE] button.
3. Repeat this step for the remaining Scene.
4. Save the settings using the Voice or Performance store operation, otherwise your Scene settings will be lost when you select a different Voice or Performance.

Q. What is Key Map mode and how do I use it?
A. Key Map mode allows you to assign samples, patterns, or pattern tracks to different keys on the keyboard. This can then be played back and controlled live in real time. To set up a Key Map follow this Procedure.
1. Press the [KEY MAP] button.
2. Select a note to which you would like to assign a sample or pattern to by pressing the desired key on the key board while holding down the [F8] button ([SEL]).
3. Use the Data Dial, [DEC]/[INC] buttons, or Controller knob 2 to select “ptn” to assign a pattern to the key, or “smpl” to assign a sample.
4. If you have chosen to map a pattern use the Data Dial, [DEC]/[INC] buttons, or one of the Controller knobs to specify one of the patterns tracks (1-8) to play back when the key is pressed. If you would like the entire pattern to play back then select all. If you have selected a sample to map use the Data Dial, [DEC]/[INC] buttons, or one of the Controller knobs to select either “RAM” (internal) or “FLS” (Flash ram).
5. Next specify how you want the sample or pattern to play back. Select “toggle” if you want the pattern or sample to begin playback when the key is pressed and stops only when you press the key again. Select “oneshot” if you would like the pattern or sample to start play back when the key is pressed, and stops automatically when it has played completely through once. Select “gating” if you would like the pattern or sample to start play back when the key is pressed, and stops when the key is released.
6. Repeat the steps above for the other keys.

Q. How do I Sample a sound?
1. Plug in your input source into the A/D INPUT jack of the EX.
2. Press the [SAMPLE] button.
3. Now press the [F8] button ([REC]).
4. If you are using the EX5 or the EX5R set the Rec Mode parameter for mono or stereo. If you are using the EX7 this is not necessary because it has only a MONO A/D INPUT.
5. If you are sampling an internal source then turn Control Knob 5 to select internal. If you are sampling an external source than turn it to A/D.
6. Turn Control Knob 6 to select mic or line if you are sampling an external source.
7. Set your input source level by turning the A/D GAIN control knob until the bar graph extends from around 80 to 90% of its maximum length.
8. Set how long you would like to sample for by using the Length parameter.
9. Press the [F8] button ([STANDBY]). Waiting will appear on the display.
10. Play your source and sampling will begin automatically, or you can press the [F8] button ([START]).

Q. How do I change the Pattern of the Arpeggiator?
1. Press the [ARPEGGIO] button to turn the Arpeggiator on. The Arpeggiator editor display will appear.
2. Turn Control Knob 3 to select different Arpeggiator patterns.
3. Press the [VOICE] button to return to Voice mode or press [PERFORMANCE] to return to Performance mode.

Q. How do I activate the Arpeggiator Hold function?
A. With the Arpeggiator on, hold down the [SHIFT] button then press the [ARPEGGIO] button. To turn the hold function off follow the same procedure.
