Should "do not map through this device" be checked or not? Why is this included in the wavedriver?
A:
This option is listed under the general properties of the wavedriver. It is a check box that can either be checked or not. The default setting is unchecked.
When unchecked, Sound Mapper (windows audio system) will convert audio files (if necessary) into a file format that the driver can use. This can happen both in record and playback. When Checked, the routing and converting is bypassed, and it is left up to the application in use to decipher the audio file that is playing back or being recorded.
