Q:
Will the Axon work just as well with an external module as it does with it’s internal sounds?
A:
Absolutely! There will be no difference in tracking speed or response whether you use the Axon’s internal sounds or an external tone generator. (NOTE; Different manufacturers MIDI modules have different response speeds themselves and may slightly affect your response time. (ie; time from receiving a MIDI command to output of analog sound, but these times are in the sub 5msec category, generally.)
The Axon’s internal soundboard is merely on a parallel MIDI connection with the MIDI out on the rear of the Axon unit. What this means is that Axon deals in MIDI, and only MIDI, all the time. There have been other guitar to MIDI converters whose internal performance has been much better than their external (MIDI) performance. This is due to the fact that the internal tone generator deals in Control Voltages, not MIDI. The MIDI conversion is performed only on the MIDI out port, and this leads to a severe drop in tracking speed and accuracy when using the MIDI out on older pitch to MIDI converter units. This is not true with the Axon, as the neural net technology used allows for immediate and timely conversion to MIDI, so that the Axon has identical, fast performance on it’s internal as well as external MIDI functions.
