Q:
Setting the Input Level on the AW4416 and AW2816
A:
In order to obtain the best sonic quality from the AW4416 and AW2816, input levels must be set properly. The following is a procedure for correctly setting the input level on the analog inputs:
1) Connect the sound source (microphone, keyboard, drum machine, etc.) to one of the analog inputs. 2) Press the [HOME] button. 3) Press the [F1] button. The Input Level screen will display in the LCD allowing the input levels to be monitored. 4) While applying signal from the sound source, adjust the 'GAIN' control of the input channel so that the 'PEAK' indicator next to the 'GAIN' control lights briefly when the largest signal is produced. NOTE: The peak indicator lights up 3 dB before clipping occurs so occasional peaks are acceptable but sustained peaks will produce distortion. 5) Select one of the following options: a) Press the [1-16] button in the 'MIXING LAYER' section (AW4416). b) Press the [1-8] button in the 'MIXING LAYER' section (AW2816). 6) Raise the input channel's fader to '0' and make sure that the [ON] button for that channel is selected.
