Q:
How do I choose optical S/PDIF on my Frontier Design Dakota card?
A:
On the Dakota control panel's Clock-Device Status window, the pulldown menu next to the Coax will select where the stereo device S 1:2 will come from. Choices are: Coax, CD-Rom, Opt A-D. Therefore, you can only use one S/PDIF input at a time. The other optical inputs will remain in ADAT format. Lines will automatically appear in the status grid showing you which bank is set to S/PDIF.
The stereo S/PDIF stream is always present on the Dakota's Coaxial output (on the breakout cable). You can also route the S/PDIF stream to any or all of the Dakota/Montana's optical outputs by clicking on the button next to Opt A-D. Clicking this button will toggle between ADAT optical and S/PDIF optical (Toslink). Again, lines will reflect the routing. In summary, in the Dakota control panel Clock-Device Status windows, you can select any one S/PDIF input from: Coax, CD-Rom, Opt A-D. S/PDIF output is always present on the Coaxial output, but, in addition, you can route it to any or all of the Opt A-D outputs.
