Q:
How do you get audio tracks from a CD into Pro Tools 4.0?
A:
Pro Tools 4.0 allows you to transfer audio from an audio CD with Import Other Movie Audio command. (You cannot use the Import Audio Files command from the File menu to import audio from an audio CD.)To transfer audio from an audio compact disc (CD):1. Insert the desired audio CD in your CD-ROM drive.2. From the Movie menu, choose Import Audio from Other Movie. 3. In the dialog that appears, navigate to the audio CD in your CD-ROM drive, select the audio track you wish to import, and click Convert.4. In the next dialog that appears, click the Options button.5. In the Options dialog, select the desired sample rate (Rate), bit resolution (Size), and channel format (Use). The controls at the bottom of this dialog allow you to import either the entire audio track, or by adjusting the Start and End times, a specific portion of the track only. When you have set these parameters as desired, click OK. Pro Tools supports 16-bit, 44.1 kHz (and 48 kHz) audio files in its sessions.6. When you return to the Save Converted File As dialog, navigate to the hard drive and directory where you wish to import the audio file. If you wish to keep all your session's audio data together in the same directory, then navigate to the Audio Files folder for your current session.7. Click Save and Pro Tools will create the file on your hard disk.8. After the file is created, the Track Import window will appear, displaying information about the file, including: the number of the track, the number of channels, the bit resolution, the sample rate, and enabled/disabled status. 9. Make sure the track you want to import is selected (highlighted) and click OK. Pro Tools will convert the audio track to your session's sample rate and 16-bit resolution, and then import the selected audio track(s) into the Audio Regions List. From there you can drag the file(s) onto the desired track.
