No MIDI communication to an external device from the Opcode Studio 3.

The Studio 3 splits its outputs between the two Mac serial ports (present on pre Blue and White G3s). The Modem port communicates on MIDI outputs 1-3 and the printer on MIDI outputs 4-6.If only the Mac printer port is being used, try using MIDI output 4 on the Studio 3 instead of MIDI output 1.
