Q:
Why does the speed cal light flash rapidly on my USD when clock reference is set to video ref and I'm feeding it 60 Hz black burst instead of standard 59.94 Hz for NTSC or 50 Hz for PAL?

A:
This is normal behavior for the USD. It is only used to detecting 59.94 Hz at its video ref port (or 50 Hz when in PAL mode). Because it is seeing a faster rate, the speed cal light should flash rapidly. However, if the locked light on the USD is solid, then the USD is correctly clocking to the 60 Hz signal. In such a scenario, if you want 441. KHz out of the USD, you'll have to set the USD's sample rate to 44.056 (pull down). If you want 44.144 KHz (pull up) out of the USD you'll have to set the sample rate to 44.1 KHz. Similar rules apply for 48 KHz.Note that 44.056 and 47.952 sample rates cannot be created with this configuration.
