What does the "Support Background Record Applications" refer to?

This option allows you to run other applications (Gallery DATStudio) that allow audio recording in the background concurrently with Pro Tools. When this option is checked, files that are being recorded in the background can be imported into Pro Tools, and can be trimmed and viewed while they continue to have newly-recorded information added to what already has been recorded.
