Why does AV Option require a Universal Slave Driver (USD)?

The USD is required to give Pro Tools "top of frame" information from a remote video device so that audio and video are matched with sample accuracy. This is important when digitizing video into Pro Tools.The second purpose of the USD is to resolve the sample clock of Pro Tools to video black, a common reference to which the ABVB card and any external video device should also be resolved.
