Apparently Absynth is checking DirectConnect's file name before it "turns on" DirectConnect support. If you have changed the name of the DirectConnect plug-ins, for example into "DirectConnect_beta", Absynth will gray out the DirectConnect menu option and you won't be able to use it.

If this sounds familiar please make sure that the DirectConnect plug-in is named "DirectConnect". If the name's different please rename and try again, everything should be fine now. Also, don't forget to launch Pro Tools before starting Absynth.
