Setup for syncing a Mackie Digital 8-Bus, Tascam DA-78, and Digidesign 001 Pro Tools LE for Windows.
A:
Physical Connections1. MIDI OUT DA-78 > MIDI IN of Digidesign 001.2. MIDI OUT Mackie D8B > MIDI IN of DA-78.Pro Tools1. Setups menu > Peripherals: Synchronization: Device is Generic MTC reader, Port is "Any" or Digidesign 001, check the enable control of Pro Tools via MMC box, only if you want to control the DA-78 from the Pro Tools Transport. To Control Pro Tools via the DA-38: Setups > Peripherals > Machine Control Tab > Enable > Send to DA-78.2. Windows menu > Show Session Setup. Set the sample and frame rates to match that between the DA-78 and Pro Tools. Current time and session start time should match hours. note: If you do not see "current time" then the timing information is not being sent from the DA-78 (check MIDI connections, Pro Tools settings) When changing session start times you must press the enter key to complete the change in hour. If it prompts you to adjust the regions choose "Maintain Relative" position. Time Code Freewheel should be set to 8 Frames. Jam Sync will allow Pro Tools to keep moving if the incoming Time Code is intermittent. If Jam Sync is selected, when pressing stop on the DA-78, Pro Tools will not stop. 3. MIDI menu > Input Devices. Ensure that the DA-78 is checked on (enabled).4. Transport window: Put online (Operations menu: Online). The clock will flash blue and the edit window should read "waiting for sync" near the bottom left hand corner. Transport = Pro Tools.5. Setups menu: Preferences. Choose either record at ADAT lock or Insertion/selection.6. Press play on the DA-78 and Pro Tools should go into play and be in sync.
