Q:
I experience a delay between the time I initiate record and the time Pro Tools begins recording.
A:
1-On your transport (with MIDI Controls displayed), 2nd button from the left, is a MIDI Click Countoff icon (it defaults to being labeled "2 Bars"). If you are not using a MIDI click/countoff, then disabling this will allow Pro Tools to engage recording without delay.2--The second 'fix' deals with the 'priming' of a hard drive by Pro Tools when in record mode. Open the Setups > Preferences > Operation window and look for the "Open Ended Record Allocation" setting. If your not recording a 3 hour long project you can reduce this setting. Most of my songs are less than 5 minutes so I set my limit to 10 minutes just to play it safe. This tells Pro Tools to look for less space on the hard drive resulting in a quicker response. 3--Open the Setups>Playback Engine and check the setting of your "DAE Playback Buffer", set to level 2 [default]. NOTE:This can be reduced to level 1 or level 0 for a quicker response time when you hit record. BEWARE, this can put a heavier load on your hard drive, especially at 0, and reduce the number of tracks recordable in one pass.
