"Digital noise" is emitted from the Mbox when connecting to internet with internal modem of G4.

Check the Modem Control Panel and set Sound to Off. Then go to the Sound Control Panel and set Input to None or Sound In... make sure Play Sound Through Output Device is unchecked.
