Do HTDM plug-ins and DirectConnect applications utilize resources in the same way?
 
A:
Yes and No. Both use CPU resources in a similar manner as well as use the Digidesign StreamManager to get audio in and out of the TDM bus. The only difference between the two is that HTDM plug-ins use memory from the Pro Tools heap space, and a DirectConnect app needs its own memory heap.

• If running host-based sampler (like Soft SampleCell, or Unity) with 256 MB of samples loaded, I assume that 256 meg of system ram must be free, yes?

• If the CPU Usage Limit value is set to 85%, is that 85% of the total CPU power in the Mac, meaning that only 15% is left for the system and other apps?
