Q:
My Windows system runs slow now that I installed an Aardvark audio card, what can be wrong?
A:
There are several possibilities:
1. Some ethernet cards cause this slowdown with Aardvark cards, especially built-in (on motherboard) NICs (Network Interface Card). Many Dell desktop computers have this problem, including the Optiplex 400 series and Dimension 8x00 series. Go into the BIOS and disable your on-board NIC. If you have a PCI ethernet card, try simply unplugging it. 2. Make sure to download the latest drivers for your Aardvark at aardvark-pro.com As of April '03, the drivers are at version 7.04. These resolve some problems with the version 7.00 drivers on the CDs packaged in the box. 3. You may have a resource conflict (hardware or software), type PC Optimization in the knowledge database and printout the appropriate guide for your version of Windows. 4. Creative Soundblaster brand cards have some known issues in Windows 2000 and XP with Aardvark cards. This bug is 99% resolved in the newest driver version 7.04, but a few problems remain. Try physically removing the card from the computer and see if this helps.
