When using Steinberg Cubase SX or SL to start another device (such as a MOTU Midi Timepiece) should the sync setting Machine Control be None or MIDI Machine Control?

You can try this setting either way, but most likely it will work best in MIDI Machine Control setting if you need to use MIDI Machine Control to start the other device which makes timecode.
