Q:
How do I set up my environment for DAE with ESBTDM?

A:
Now we can set up an environment to
use ESB. First, make sure that you have both
DAE and DTDM checked on in your Audio
Hardware and Drivers window. If you did not
already have these checked, restart Logic for
it to take effect.

Now go into your audio environment. By default, all of the audio tacks here will be assigned to DAE. Scroll over to the right past your audio tracks and look for two Aux tracks. ESB will only work if it is loaded on to a DAE Aux track. A common mistake is to load it on to an Audio track. If you try this, ESB will be grayed out on the plugin list. If you want to receive audio from DTDM in stereo streams, then you need to load the stereo version of ESB. To do so, you
will need to make one of your DAE Aux tracks stereo by clicking the stereo button on the first Aux tack. This will gang the first two Aux’s together as a stereo pair.
Note: You can keep the Aux tracks mono and load
mono ESB’s on them. Then for each stereo output
from DTDM you will need two DAE Aux tracks each
with an ESB.
Now, instantiate an ESB plugin in the top insert of this track. Double click on the blue ESB plugin space on the track to open the ESB window. There is not much
to look at here. The only option you have is what output this ESB will be receiving from the DTDM mixer, which we will be building next. Choose ‘Output 1-2’ for our first one.
What this does is hook a Direct Connect virtual ‘wire’ from the Master Output 1-2 of DTDM into this ESB plugin. So, now all audio being sent out of the DTDM Master Out 1-2 will now come through to this ESB. Think of it as the outputs of a sound card going into a mixer or another sound card. You can now make more DAE Aux tracks and load more ESB plugins. An important thing to note is that ESB can only receive 8 audio channels at once. That means 4 stereo ESB’s, or 8 mono ESB’s, or any combination that equals 8 audio channels.
