Q:
How do I edit the results of Finale's Auto-Tablature Plug-in?
A:
There's a couple of ways to edit the Guitar Tab. To edit on a measure by measure basis, select the Mass Mover Tool and highlight the measure(s) you wish to change in the standard notation staff AND all six tab strings. Now when you invoke Automatic Tablature from the Plug-In menu, you're given the opportunity to change the lowest fret used or the capo position.
If you need to edit on a note by note basis, you can use the above method after specifing Select Partial Measures from the Edit Menu. Alternately you can use the "old method": Select the Note Mover tool. From the Note Mover menu, select Delete After Merge. Now if you click on any of the strings, you'll see that each number on that string has a handle. If you'd like to move a note from one string to another, simply drag its handle to the appropriate string. Note that the second editing method gets a little tricky when the Auto Tab plug-in has created Rhythmic Notation for you. The Plug-in creates the Rhythmic Notation by placing headless notes in a new staff almost on top of the 1st string tab. The secret is to select the Staff tool, double-click on the top most staff handle to the left of the tab lines, place a check next to Hide Staff in the Options section of the resulting Staff Attributes dialog box, and then click OK. When you're done editing, simply repeat the above steps turning Hide Staff back off. Finally, if upon editing notes with Rhythmic Notation you find that you don't like the way the stems relate to the notes any more, select the Speedy Entry tool and click a little above the top tab line. In the Speedy Entry frame you'll see the note stems in question. If you click where their note heads should be, you can drag these stems up/down or right/left just as you can any other notes in Speedy Entry. Remember that holding the Shift key down while you drag restricts your movements to either up/down or left/right.
