Q:
MOTU Issue: Can I transfer audio to the 2408 with my DA-88 and SY-88 card if I don't have a synchronizer?
A:
Transfers with a DA88 and SY88 card only.
You could use the word clock as a reference but you will not get any address synchronization. It would be a random transfer with no reference to time. If you have a SMPTE converter, you could feed SMPTE from the DA-88 to your SMPTE converter. This would get MTC to Digital Performer, then take word clock out of the DA-88 to the 2408 and choose word clock as the clock source in the 2408 driver window. Be sure to choose the sample rate that matches the rate at which the audio on your DA-88 tape was recorded. This would give you a clean digital transfer with phase accurate sync. It is also possible to take Word Clock from the 2408 to Word In on the DA-88 and set the 2408 Clock Source to Internal. The DA-88's ID should be set to 0 and the front panel should be set to indicate "WORD". With Adats and DA-88's the direction of the audio does not dictate who should be the Word Clock Master. It is only important that one device references to Word Clock from the other.
