Q:
MOTU Issue: Retro AS-1 or Unity DS-1 and Motu Audio Hardware
A:
If you are using Retro AS-1 or Unity DS-1 with MOTU Audio hardware and Digital Performer there are a couple of things you need to be aware of.
1. It is possible to get into a state where you need to choose the PCI-324 driver as your I/O Driver if you have temporarily chosen another driver such as Sound Manager or you have thrown out your preferences. If you try to choose the PCI-324 Driver you will receive the message "The PCI-324 Card is currently in use and can not be configured at this time." This is because the driver is already in use as soon as the FreeMIDI application is launched, which then accesses the Retro AS-1 Engine via the Retro AS-1 FreeMIDI Driver. While the PCI-324 driver is a multi-client driver and several applications can access the driver at once, you can not configure the driver while it is in use by another application. Quit Digital Performer. Go to the Sound Control Panel and temporarily choose Built-In for both Sound In and Sound Out. Open a New File in Digital Performer and choose the PCI-324 driver in the Configure Hardware Driver Window which is found in the Basics menu under Motu Audio System Options. Quit Digital Performer and choose PCI-324 for Sound In and Sound Out in the Sound Control Panel if you would like to monitor Retro AS-1 with the 2408. Now when you open a new file in Digital Performer the default driver will be the PCI-324 Driver. If you need to configure the 2408 we recommend quitting Digital Performer and launching the PCI-324 Console. 2. To get the best performance from Retro AS-1, be sure to set the Samples Per Buffer size to a setting lower than 1024. Otherwise, you may encounter MIDI timing problems with Retro AS-1. Without launching Digital Performer, open the PCI-324 Console. Set the Samples Per Buffer size to 512 or lower. |
