Q:
How do I get MIDI device profiles and patchlists in Mac OSX?
A:
Currently, OSX's CoreMIDI services do not provide device profiles or patchlists. These may be developed by Apple in the future.
MOTU has provided a solution with Digital Performer 4. They converted all profiles and patchlists from FreeMIDI in OS9 (with DP3). When you install DP4, this information gets installed into the CoreMIDI system. So when you configure your MIDI setup with the AudioMIDI Setup, you will have device profiles available. Once DP4 is installed, these profiles and patchlists will also be available in other MIDI applications (as long as they use CoreMIDI, and have patchlist support)
