Pro Audio Support

Q:
In Kompakt and Kontakt I am unable to change the prefered memory size. If I open under classic I can change it....but as soon as I restart they both load up with 512mb. How can I change the size under OSX and set the new size as the default.

A:
There is no memory allocation setting in OS X anymore.

There seems to be such a setting when opening a OS 9 "classic" application info window under OS X.

But this is only the case with OS 9 applications which would have to be opened in OS X "classic" environment.

Attention!:
* Do not use NI audio applications in classic mode! *

Each application is getting as much memory as it needs from the OS. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to monitor the amount of used Ram with Panthers "activity monitor" or use the terminal, command: "top", which will display the percentage of free Ram. You should not go below approximately 100 MB of free Ram. Otherwise OS X will force applications to use virtual memory which has to be avoided!

Virtual memory cannot be turned off in OS X.
