Does the Tascam Firewire 1082 work with a non TI chipset Firewire cards?

In one instance, using a VIA chipset Firewire card caused the FW1082 to not recognize properly. Switching out the firewire card to a TI chipset card (Adaptec Firewire 4300 card) resolved the issue.
