Q:
I am getting back and forth error messages telling me to increase then decrease my buffer sizes in ProTools on my PC. What can I do?
A:
This problem usually occurs with -9129, -9093, -9094, -6086, or similar DAE error numbers or messages about CPU resources**. One known solution in Windows XP is to update your IDE/ATA controllers. Here's how:
1. Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Manage." 2. In the left-hand column, select the Device Manager." Click on the "+" next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers." You should see three types: Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel, and a third type. There will be three type entries for each internal mounted hard drive. 3. If this third type is "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller," your errors are due to something else. If the third type is anything else, right-click on it and select "Update Driver..." 4. If Windows wants to connect automatically, choose "No, not this time." 5. When you get to the Hardware Update Wizard, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)." Click "Next." 6. Choose "Don't search. I will..." and click "Next." 7. Highlight the "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" and click "Next" then "Finish" then "Yes." Your computer will now restart, and Pro Tools should stop giving you these errors. If they still persist, try another solution in our Knowledgebase or contact our Tech Support department by phone or email. **Such messages may read: "Audio processing is conflicting with other tasks." "The operating system held off interrupts for too long." "Buffer underrun prevention..." "Try increasing (or decreasing) the Hardware buffer size."
