Pro Audio Support

Q:
Are there system tweaks I need to perform on my Mac to make Digital Performer 5 work properly?

A:
Yes, but they are few and simple.

1) Energy Saver. Click the Apple menu and choose System Preferences, there click Energy Saver.
In the Sleep section, we recommend setting all sleep options to NEVER and disable the option to "put hard drives to sleep."
In the OPTIONS page, look for the "Processor Performance" option. Change this setting from AUTOMATIC to HIGHEST.

2) Hard Drives. It is important to have plenty of free, unfragmented space on a good, fast hard drive. This will aid DP5 in recording and playing back several audio tracks, as well as longer recordings. It is strongly recommended that you use a second hard drive (in addition to your system "Macintosh" HD) for audio recording. An additional internal drive or an external Firewire drive can be used. Drives should operate at least 7200 RPM. Firewire drives should have the Oxford 911 chipset for best performance.

3) RAM - have plenty of it. MOTU states a minimum requirement of 512 MB, but recommends at least 1GB. More RAM will allow you to use more plugins, more instruments, etc.
