Q:
Why do I get the error "Wrong Product ID" when I try to register the MPEG plug-in in Vegas Video? When you attempt to render a project as an MPEG file and choose MPEG from the Save as type drop-down list, Vegas prompts you to register the MPEG plug-in. When you attempt to register, you get an error saying "Wrong Product ID" and you cannot render to MPEG format.
A:
On November 14th, 2001 Sony Media Software ended support for the Ligos MPEG plug-in that was included in the Vegas 2.0 line of products. After that date, any attempts to register the plug-in return an error stating "Wrong Product ID." A new MPEG plug-in (MainConcept MPEG plug-in) has been added to the Vegas Video 3.0 and later line of software. The MainConcept MPEG plug-in will register appropriately. Please refer to this link for further information about this change in MPEG support in Vegas. You can also contact Sony Media Software's customer service department.
