Q:
What Firewire cards do PreSonus interfaces work with?
A:
PreSonus Firewire interfaces should work with any Firewire chipset, except NEC chipsets, which have known compatibility problems. Also, generic chipsets can cause lack of sync. They recommend using Texas Instrument or VIA chipsets.
To check your chipset on your PC, right-click on My Computer and select Manage > Device manager > click on the "+" next to IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers. You will see a controller that says: "___ OHCI Compliant IEEE...." Whatever shows up in the ____ is your chipset. Mac users will only need to be concerned if they are using a separate Firewire PCI card. To check, click on the Apple > About This Mac > More info > PCI Cards. You should see the chipset model in this wiindow. Additionally, PC laptops with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000/9100 IGP chipset have shown consistent problems with pops/clicks on playback. You can check for this chipset in the Device Manager/Display Adapters.
