I imported a file recorded in stereo mode into a 4-track mode project, but I cannot select it as a playback file.

To play a file recorded in stereo mode, a pair of tracks for which stereo link is enabled are necessary. Enable stereo link for tracks 1/2 or 3/4, and then select the playback file.
