Q:
Why can't I hear any sound from my virtual instrument plug-in in Pro Tools 7? It works fine on an Audio track, but when I tried it on an Instrument track or an Aux track I couldn't hear it.
A:
When loading certain instrument plug-ins in Pro Tools 7 on either Instrument or Aux tracks, make sure to assign a stereo interface input assignment to the track (ie, Mic/Line 1-2...the nomenclature will depend on your specific audio hardware). If there is no input assignment for the track, the plug-in will not be heard in the session. Additionally, be sure that you raise the level faders for the tracks you are using (by default Instrument and Aux tracks are created with the faders all the way down).
This is a phenomenon that was discovered that affects UVI engine products in Pro Tools 7 (examples include MOTU's Mach5 and Spectrasonics' Atmosphere).
