Q:
Audio-CD import: DVD/CD devices are not shown
(PC Windows)
A:
Under certain circumstances, it may happen that the audio CD import cannot be started because of the CD/DVD drives not shown in the import dialogue. Please download the ASPI driver* (wnaspi32.dll) and place it into C:\Windows\System32. After a system restart the drive for importing audio CDs should now be accessible from within Cubase or WaveLab.
Other important facts to be considered: Verify that the DMA (Direct Memory Access) mode is active on your CD/DVD-device (and all the other drives) using the device manager (Start -> Settings -> Control panel -> System -> Hardware -> device manager). On Windows 2000 and XP, you can find this dialogue within the primary and secondary IDE controller settings. If for some reason it is impossible to enable the DMA mode or after a reboot it is inactive again, you should consult the manufacturer of the producer of the affected hardware. Newer chipset generations (and their current driver revisions) often have no possibility to activate the DMA mode because the IDE controller already uses DMA anyway. However, it could be that you have to install or update the chipset and bus master drivers if errors occur or if the audio CD import itself does not work properly *The freeware ASPI-driver (Frog ASPI) is provided by frogaspi.org For additional information, please have a look at that website.
