Q:
Why does Cakewalk Pro Audio seem to run much slower with disk-related operations in Windows 95 than it did in 3.1? Cakewalk Pro Audio runs much slower on Windows 95
A:
While disk caching can imrpove the speed of most dik-related operations, it tends to have the opposite effect with digital audio. SmartDrive is the Windows 3.1 disk caching system which Windows 3.1 was programmed to disable as soon as playback began, and enable after it was finished. In Windows 95, the cureent version of Cakewalk Pro Audio is not able to do this with the 32-bit VCACHE used in both WfW3.11 and W95.
You may get better performance by disabling VCACHE or using SmartDrive instead.
