If the problem is symetrical, IE each 8th key, the cause is the paper ribbon cable connecting the upper keyswitch PCB to the lower keyswitch PCB. It comes in contact with the metal bottom and the friction eventually wears through the insulation and shorts the ribbons to ground.

Solution: tape the ribbon and bend it away from the case. About 1/2 hr of labor.
