Q:
Changing the Meter bridge "0" reference Meter 0 reference, changing
A:
Several customers using digital machines are complaining that the 8 Buss meters are always full on. We wish to change the "0 dBu" reference to "+6dBu" on the meter bridge. This will place the "+10" yellow LED at "+16dBu".
Change the U102A feedback resistor (R116) from 20kΩ to 10kΩ to reduce the gain of this stage by 2 (or 6dB). This modification is a LINEAR shift of 6dB NOT an EXPANSION of the meter range. U102A is a voltage follower op-amp with a 10kΩ source resistance and a 20kΩ feed-back resistance, for a Gain of 2. Changing the feed-back resistor to 10kΩ reduces the Gain to Unity , 6 dB below nominal. The modified circuit requires a signal level of +6 dBu to light the meter "0" LED, and a level of +16dBu ( "0" for ADAT, DA88,ect) to light the meter "+10", yellow LED.
