I get high pitched noises and oscillations instead of Piano/strings or I press any key on my controller, and my whole system freezes. and I have to reboot.

Pls locate the folder called 'IK Multimedia' inside your VstPlugIns folder.
You should have a folder located in this path:

....:VstPlugIns>IK Multimedia>SampleTank Instruments>XL Edition
Instrument List

Delete the 'XL Edition Instrument List' folder. It contains no sounds,
there are only names and references to the sounds in the full release of
SampleTank. This is known to mess up things when locating new sounds to
play.
