Q:
When recording onto ADAT from Pro Tools, ADAT fails to engage record, but instead plays past starting time. Signal is present on ADAT's input meters.
A:
Check preroll in the ADAT window and confirm that it is not set to 00:00:000. After record-enabling your ADAT tracks, make sure Transport=ADAT is selected, and press both Record and then Play in Pro Tools'Transport window. Pressing "Play " in the same window you record-enable the ADAT properly completes the record command. If you press Record in Pro Tools'Transport window, and then ""Play " on the ADAT, the ADAT will go into Record Safety Mode. It will allow you to monitor the input of the ADAT's record-enabled tracks and the output of other tracks, so you can practice your record take, but the ADAT will not record the take.
