Q:
A Split-Stereo File converted from a Sound Designer II Stereo File plays back with symptoms of distortion, clipping and phase shifting, when placed in the Edit Window, yet the original File sounds fine when previewed in the Import Audio Dialog window.
A:
Be aware that each track's Pan Settings are probably at dead center. When Left and Right Files are placed in the Edit Window, pan each track accordingly. If each track is panned to the center, then the possibility of overloading and phasing can occur due to the summation of the two files.
