On page 69, of the "Getting Started with 001" and page 56 of the "getting started with ToolBox" guide for Pro Tools LE 5.1 it shows hw buffer settings of 2048,4096,8192 samples.

That is incorrect. The highest hw buffer setting for Pro Tools LE 5.1 is 1024 samples.Pro Tools TDM systems running 5.1 and Pro Tools FREE does offer those higher hw buffer settings though.
