Q:
Does Pro Tools 5.1 require more DSP resources than previous versions?
A:
As long as you don't use the Surround Mixer, you shouldn't expect any greater usage of DSP resources. The exceptions are for certain plug-ins that were updated to use MultiShell DSP sharing technology, such as ModDelay, TimeAdjuster, and D-Fi. In the vast majority of cases these plug-ins are now much more efficient than the prior versions, because they can share chips with other plug-ins, although in some rare instances they could be slightly less efficient due to the small amount of overhead required for MultiShell. The bottom line is overall 5.11 is more DSP efficient than 5.01.
