Every attempt was made to achieve complete compatibility with currently shipping DAT decks. However, due to the way the DA-30 interprets the digital signal, a loud noise burst (when the DA-30 is record enabled), or a click (written at the start of the transfer) can occur when recording to the DA-30 via its S/PDIF input. This problem can occur between any Digidesign S/PDIF output (Audio Interface 442, 882 I/O,882 Studio, & Audiomedia II) and the DA-30. There is no known problem with AES transfers from Audio Interface to DA-30, and this problem is not found on any other compatible DAT Machine. The workaround is to toggle the digital input selector on the DA-30. This resets the clock and overcomes the problem in most cases. A modification can be performed that permits DA-30 compatibility on Audiomedia II cards serial number 21,500 or lower, or any 882 Studio Interface, but this will create compatibility problems with other DAT decks. Audiomedia II cards serial number 21,501 and up have a user configurable jumper setting for DA-30 compatibility. These jumpers are located on the top edge (the edge opposite the Nubus connector) of the card, near the analog and digital RCA connectors. The jumper settings are labled "DA-30" and "other".
