Q:
In a 24 bit session should I apply dither during normalization or during the bounce to disk process?
A:
What is the difference between the following processes in a 24 bit session?1 - Normalize in Pro Tools with 16 bit Dither enabled, and bounce to disk without using the Dither plug-in.2 - Normalize in Pro Tools without Dither, and bounce it to disk using the Dither plug-in set to 16 bit, and convert after bounce. They are practically the same, although in the first case the normalized output remains in floating point format before being dithered. Regardless of this, in most cases you should set the AudioSuite dither to 24-bit for a 24-bit session, and then dither to 16-bit during bounce after all processing is completed.
