Q:
Pro Tools is able to mount a Unity workspace on the desktop but crashes often and hard when attempting playback and/or record.

A:
There several things that could cause this but one is that there must be three Unity files in the extensions folder of the Pro Tools system for Pro Tools to operate successfully, they are:- Avid Fibre Driver version 3.01 (or 3.02?)- Avid Unity version 1.26 for Unity version 1.22PT or version 2.1 for Unity version 2.1- JNI PCI Compatibility version 1.0
