Q:
Is it normal for the HOT, COLD and GROUND pins of a 192 I/O (all channels) to show continuity with each other? When I connect the 192 I/O to my patch bay, I see a drop in level, artifacts and transient distortion, showing up on everything that is sharing a bay.

A:
Yes, it is fine to measure continuity between HOT COLD and GROUND pins as it is done by design. It is a byproduct of never allowing the 192 I/O be a high impedance device. To fix this problem (see Supplemental information section for a description of how this particular studio was wired), there are two options:1-Raise the output impedance of the 192 I/O. However, you run the risk of altering its performance (increased noise floor, reduced output, etc). 2-Break the normals and manually patch the devices when you need them.
