Setup for syncing a Tascam DA-98 to Pro Tools LE/Digi 001 via either Otari FS-96 or Tascam T/DIF 1 (T/DIF to Light Pipe converter) for Mac.
A:
Physical Connections1. Connect out the DA-98 T/DIF > Otari FS-96 or Tascam T/DIF 1. (To convert T/DIF to Lightpipe). 2. Complete the loop by connecting out the Otari FS-96 back into the DA-98 sync.3. Connect optically out of the Otari FS-96 in to the Digi 001 optical in (on the card in the computer) note: optical out of 001 PCI card has a red light eminating from it.4. Connect MIDI out of the MIDI card on the DA-98(Midi Time Code, MTC) to the Digi 001 MIDI in.5. Complete the loop with MIDI out the Digi 001 back into the DA-98(Midi Time Code, MTC).DA-98 and/ or Otari FS-96 or Tascam T/DIF 11. DA-98 (clock set to internal)2. Set the desired frame rate on the Otari FS-96 or Tascam T/DIF 1 to match the DA-98 and Pro Tools frame rate.3. Enable MTC on the Otari FS-96 or Tascam T/DIF by pressing the "MTC On" button.OMS Studio Setup1. Double click on the keyboard with a "?" (branching off the 001)2. Set the Manufacturer to Tascam and the Model to your specific Tascam model (DA-98).3. Go to the edit menu to preferences and ensure that "serial DMA" is Unchecked.4. Save setup and quit OMSPro Tools1. Setups menu to peripherals: Synchronization: Device is Generic MTC reader, Port is Any( or maybe DA-98), check the enable control of Pro Tools via MMC box, only if you want to control the DA-98 from the Pro Tools Transport. To Control Pro Tools via the DA-98: Setups > Peripherals > Machine Control Tab > Enable > Send to DA-98.2. Windows menu: Show Session Setup. Set the sample and frame rates to match that between the DA-98 and Pro Tools. Current time and session start time should match hours. Set the sync mode to optical. note: If you do not see "current time" then the timing information is not being sent from the DA-98/Otari FS-96 or Tascam T/DIF (check midi connections, OMS studio setup, Pro Tools settings or the DA-98). If, when switching sync mode from internal to optical, you get the error "unable to detect a clock source" then the optical cable is at fault or Pro Tools is not receiving the optical sync (Go to setups: Playback engine: and make sure that Optical format is on ADAT). When changing session start times you must press the enter key to complete the change in hour. If it prompts you to adjust the regions choose "Maintain Relative" position.3. MIDI menu: Input devices. Ensure that the DA-98 is checked on (enabled).4. Transport window: Put online (Operations menu: Online). The clock will flash blue and the edit window should read "waiting for sync" near the bottom left hand corner. Transport = Pro Tools.5. Setups menu: Preferences. Choose either record at ADAT lock or Insertion/selection.6. Press play on the DA-98 and Pro Tools should go into play and be in sync.
