Q:
What is the correct slot order in an Apple G4 "mirrored door" model (released in August 2002).
A:
The 2002 "mirrored door" G4's have a new motherboard and PCI bus design which is upside down. Whereas all previous G4's have the Graphics Display card in the top slot (numbered slot 0) these new machines have their AGP slot below the PCI bus. Numbering of the slots therefore is reversed as well. Slot 1, where a Core card (or in an expanded system, an Expansion Chassis Host Card) should be installed, will be just above the AGP slot. Slot 2, where the first DSP Farm, Mix Farm, or HD Process card should be installed, will be above that.. .and so on.Slot 4 (all the way at the top) is where the SCSI controller card should be installed.
