Q:
Why does my Steinberg MI-4 audio interface with my System4 software record only static but plays back fine?
A:
This is a known issue with the MI4 audio interface, and Steinberg is working on a solution at this time. This should be fixed in the future by a Firmware and Driver update available at steinberg.net But until then, you can reset the clock of the unit by going to the MI4 control panel and toggling between Internal and External sync 6 or 7 time, then leaving it on Internal. Then go try a very short recording. If the static is still there, toggle the sync a few more times. If the static is gone, the unit will likely record fine for as long as a few hours without needing to be reset.
