Why don't my DirectX plugins show up in Cubase 4 and/or Cubase Studio 4?

With the introduction of VST3 plugins in the the Cubase version 4 series, Steinberg has decided to no longer support DirectX plugin directly in Cubase. There is a more detailed explanation here: cubase.net
