Q:
After updating to Mac OS X 10.4.11 or 10.5, Ensemble or Duet is no longer recognized by Maestro software, or the Ensemble/Duet front panel Status LED remains red.
 
A:
The version number of the AppleFWAudio kext should be verified, and the kext updated if incorrect.
To check the version number of the AppleFWAudio kext:
When using 10.5 or higher, connect Ensemble’s FireWire port to the Mac before opening System Profiler.
1) Under the Apple menu choose About This Mac
2) In the About This Mac pane, click on More Info... to open the System Profiler
3) In the System Profiler pane, under the Contents column, click on the Software disclosure triangle to view
subcategories; once subcategories are displayed, click on Extensions to highlight it.
4) In System Profiler’s main window, under the heading Extension Name, scroll down to the AppleFWAudio
extension and check the version under the Version column.
In Mac OS 10.4.11, the version number should be 2.2.0
In Mac OS 10.5/10.5.1, the version number should be 2.4.0
If the AppleFWAudio driver version is incorrect, please follow these steps. Before changing any aspect of the OS, we
strongly recommend that you back up your data.
1) Delete the following two files from your Mac and re-start the computer:
System > Library > Extension > AppleFWAudio
System > Library > Frameworks > FWAUserLib
2) When using MAC OS X 10.5:
a) Insert your Leopard 10.5 DVD and begin the installation process by clicking Restart.
b At the Select a Destination pane, click on Options, then click the Upgrade Mac OS X button.
3) When using MAC OS X 10.4.11
a) Download the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update from apple.com a) Open and run the 10.4.11 Update
4) After re-starting the Mac, re-check the version number of the AppleFWAudio kext.
