Q. How do I Format a Disk?
1. Insert a floppy disk into the disk drive.
2. Press the black [DISK] button located at the top of the SU700.
3. Press the gray [UTILITY] button.
4. Turn the Dial to select FORMAT then press the [OK] button.
5. Turn the Dial to select “FD FORMAT”. If you are formatting an external device select “SCSI FORMAT”.
6. Press the [OK] button.
7. Turn the Dial to select the type of floppy disk you are using, now press the [OK] button. It will ask you “are you sure?”
8. Press the [OK] button again to activate the format.


Q. How do I Load a Disk?
To load everything on the disk follow this procedure:
1. With the power off insert a floppy disk into the drive.
2. Turn the SU700’s power on. “Loading” will appear on the display. When the disk in finished loading you will see the name of the current Song on the display.


Q. How do I Load a Single Sample from a Disk?
1. Press the black [DISK] button located at the top of the SU700.
2. Press the gray [LOAD] button. This is the first gray button at the top of the SU700.
3. Turn the Dial to select “LOAD SAMPLE”.
4. Press the [OK] button.
5. Press one of the Sample Track Pads to select the location where you would like to load the sample.
6. Press the [OK] button.
7. Press the [OK] button again to select the floppy drive. If you were going to load a sample from an external drive, you would have to turn the Dial to select the drive, then press the [OK] button.
8. If you are loading from a external drive turn the Dial to select the volume containing the sample you would like to load. If you are loading from a floppy disk the volume will always be “FD VOLUME”.
9. Press the [OK] button.
10. Turn the Dial to select the sample you would like to load, then press the [OK] button.


Q. How do I Save a single Sample to Disk?
1. Insert a floppy disk into the disk drive.
2. Press the black [DISK] button located at the top of the SU700.
3. Press the gray [SAVE] button.
4. Turn the Dial to select EXPORT.
5. Press the [OK] button.
6. Press one of the Sample Track Pads to select the sample you would like to save.
8. Use the cursor buttons and the Dial to enter a sample name.
9. Press the [OK] button.


Q. How do I Save a whole Song to Disk?
1. Insert a floppy disk into the disk drive.
2. Press the black [DISK] button located at the top of the SU700.
3. Press the gray [SAVE] button.
4. Turn the Dial to select SAVE VOLUME.
5. Press the [OK] button.
6. Turn the Dial to select the drive you would like to save to.
7.Press the [OK] button.


Q. How do I Sample a sound?
1. Plug in the source you would like to sample, such as a CD player into the Analog inputs located on the back of the SU700.
2. Press the [SYSTEM] button.
3. Press the gray [SETUP] button.
4. Turn the Dial to select “AUDIO IN” and press the [OK] button.
5. Turn the Dial to select the type of input. If sampling from a CD select LINE then press the [OK] button.
6. Press the [SAMPLING] button.
7. Press one of the Sample Track Pads to select the location where you would like the sample to be placed then press the [OK] button.
8. Use the cursor buttons and the Dial to select the sampling rate, bit resolution, and if you would like to sample in mono or stereo.
9. Press play on your CD player and use the ANALOG LEVEL knob to adjust the input level. You’ll want to adjust the level so that the meter is all the way to the right without triggering the CLIP warning.
10. Press the [SAMPLING] button to begin recording.
11. Press the [SAMPLING] button again to stop recording. After recording the SU700 will automatically return
to Play Standby mode.


Q. What are Loop Tracks?
Loop Tracks are tracks that automatically play back the entire sample repeatedly, as a continuous loop. These tracks will always be on until you Mute them. Loop tracks are best used for Drum loops or repeating bass or synth lines. These are your main tracks.


Q. What are Composed Loop Tracks?
Composed Loop Tracks are tracks you use to record your own loop phrases. These tracks also automatically play back as a continuous loop. Unlike Loop tracks, you must create the pattern yourself by hitting the pads as necessary. Example, Sample a kick and a snare to the first and second Composed Loop tracks. Press the Record and Play buttons to begin recording. Once recording has started, play a drum beat by hitting the Composed Loop pads, the beat you made will start to play back repeatedly as a continuous loop. You can set or change the loops length using the TRACK SET / SETUP job’s LOOP LENGTH setting. (See page 238 in the Owners Manual).


Q. What are Free Tracks?
Free Tracks are tracks that are played only when you hit the pad to which the sample is assigned too. These tracks do not loop. These tracks are great for add effect type sounds.


Q. How do I Mute a Track?
1. Press the [ON / MUTE] button. ON / MUTE will appear at the top of the display.
2. Press the Sample Track Pad for the sample you would like to mute. Notice that the Brackets above and below the track disappear. This shows the the currently selected track is muted.
3. Press the Sample Track Pad again to unmute the track. Notice that the Brackets above a below the track reappear to show that the track is unmuted.
4. Press the [PLAY] button above the [ON / MUTE] button to return to play mode.




Q. How do I Set Up the Pads so I can use them to play Different Notes of the same instrument?
1. Record or load a sample into the first FREE track.
2. Press the SOUND [PITCH] button and use the function knob to adjust the pitch of the sample.
3. Press the [TRACK EDIT] button.
4. Press the gray [TRACK COPY] button.
5. Press the Sample Track Pad for the sample you just adjusted the pitch for. (This is the source track) then press the [OK] button.
6. Press the next FREE Sample Track Pad. (This is the destination track) then press the [OK] button.
7. Repeat steps 3-7 to copy the sample to as many pads as you need.
8. Press the SOUND [PITCH] button and use the function knobs to adjust the pitch of each of the samples.


Q. What are Scenes and how do I use them?
Scenes allow you to store an entire song environment such as knob settings, mute settings, and the effect setup. This environment can then be instantly recalled be pressing the [Scene] button that the environment was saved.
To store a scene follow this procedure:
1. Make sure the SCENE / MARKER Switch is set to SCENE.
2. Adjust the knob settings, mute settings, and effect setup that you would like to store.
3. Press and hold one of the 8 [SCENE] buttons until you see “SCENE STORED” on the display.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for the other available scenes.
5. To recall a scene press the [SCENE] button that is assigned to the scene that you want to recall.


Q. How do I Turn On the Metronome?
1. Press the [SYSTEM] button.
2. Press the gray [SETUP] button.
3. Turn the Dial to select “METRONOME”.
4. Press the [OK] button.
5. Turn the Dial to select REC or REC / PLAY.
6. Press the [OK] button.


Q. How do I Check how much Memory I have available for use.
1. Press the [SYSTEM] button.
2. Press the gray [MEMORY] button.
3. Turn the Dial to select either SEQUENCE MEMORY or SAMPLE-SONG MEM.
4. Press the [OK] button.
5. Press the [OK] button again to return to play mode.


Q. How do I Sync the SU700 to an External MIDI device.
1. Plug a MIDI cable from the MIDI Out of the external MIDI device, to the MIDI In of the SU700.
2. Press the [SYSTEM] button.
3. Press the gray [MIDI] button.
4. Turn the Dial to select SYNC.
5. Press the [OK] button.
6. Turn the Dial to select EXTERNAL.
7. Press the [OK] button to return to play mode.


Q. How do I assign the Ribbon Controller to a Track?
1. Press and hold the [RIBBON TRACK] button.
2. Press the Sample Track Pad that you want the Ribbon Controller to control.
3. To change the function of the Ribbon Controller, press the [SYSTEM] button.
4. Press the gray [SETUP] button.
5. Turn the Dial to select “RIBBON FUNCTION”.
6. Press the [OK] button.
7. Turn the Dial to select the desired function.
8. Press the [OK] button.
