Q:
MIDI drift, Bars and Beats, how to use the Identify Beat feature.
A:
MIDI DriftThis problem is caused because the Identify Beats command sets a number of samples per beat. If the number of samples in the selection isn't exactly divisible by the number of beats, you get a rounding error, which is then multiplied every time you duplicate the region. How to use "identify Beat" A better way to do this is to duplicate the region first, then do the Identify Beat. That way the rounding error stays at its initial level, and everything will line up within one sample. (This might create a tempo that is slightly different from what is desired though.)For example- Let's say you have a four-bar loop, and your song is 128 bars long. Duplicate the region 31 times (so you have 32 total), select the whole thing, and identify 1|1 and 129|1. Now everything lines up accurately. To add more later, duplicate the regions at the end, then re-identify the whole set, from 1|1 to xxx|1. This will always give accurate beats. In general, it's always best to use as much material as possible when identifying beats, to minimize rounding error.
